Riding House Café opened in 2011 on Great Titchfield Street. The menu is a mix of small plates and main courses. It was chosen as a place that had sufficient mix between traditional menu items and more interesting plates to work for me and three teenagers. The name is deceptive – Café conjures up a small intimate setting and that in no way describes Riding House Café. It is actually a large glass-fronted space divided into two main areas. One area has a large communal table paralleling the central main bar with seating. The other dining room has more traditional tables. As the evening progresses the whole restaurant gets a really good buzz going.
The biggest problem is that with the emphasis on small plates everything turns up at once so the table gets overcrowded and doesn’t really make the meal relaxing.

Of these, the squid and chorizo salad and pork belly were both very tasty and I'd happily order them again. The prawns looked great but really weren't that exciting.
